THE CIP MIDDLE SCHOOL MIX

Giving 6th 7th and 8th Graders a Running Start  

PROGRAM INTRODUCTION: The customizable CIP program for middle schools contains from 6 to 12 weeks, and involves 6 to 12 groups of 6 to 8 students each, depending on the number of students who decide to participate. Neckwear, branded with the colors and logo of the school must be purchased for each participating student and faculty member.   

THE CRITICAL ZONE BOOK, MIDDLE SCHOOL MIX BY DR. ALVIN S. PERRY: This book, pictured below, is used by participating teachers and students.

THE PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR: In year one, the Middle School Principal invites an administrator to manage the program. This administrator selects teachers to invite as CIP Advisors. Each advisor selects a group of 6th graders to participate.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CIP GUIDEBOOK (Not Shown Here): This free guidebook is downloaded as a virtual product from this website by each participating advisor and administrator. It focuses on activities for sixth- grade students, seventh-grade students, and eighth-grade students.

SIXTH GRADE ACTIVITY GUIDELINES

PILLARS OF CAREER AWARENESS: Each week, groups of participating students invest 5% to 10% of their program time developing action plans. 

SIX PILLARS: Each week, participating students invest 15% to 20% of program time exploring the following pillars of career awareness: relationships, possibilities, responsibilities, obstacles, opportunities, and decision-making. The MSM Workbook is used as a resource.

WEEKLY GROUP MEETINGS: Each student makes at least one awareness presentation focusing on one or more of these pillars.

TEAM-BUILDING: Each week, participating students invest 15% to 30% of their program time participating in team-building activities. At the weekly group meeting, each student reports the outcomes in terms of teams explored and teams joined.

FINDING MENTORS: Each week, participating students invest 20% - 30% of their program time seeking out mentors based on suggestions made in the Middle School Mix Book.  The MSM Workbook is used as a resource.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MIXERS: Each week, participating students invest 5% of their time at a middle school mixer social event, planned by the CIP Middle School Administrator. Students wear their customized neckwear.  

7TH GRADE ACTIVITY GUIDELINES

MENTORING: Participating students invest 40% to 60% of their program time mentoring 6th graders. 

MIDDLE SCHOOL MIXERS: Each week, participating students invest 5% of their time at a middle school mixer social event, planned by the CIP Middle School Administrator. Students wear their customized neckwear.

TEAM PARTICIPATION: Participating students invest 35% to 40% of their time participating on teams of their choice.

WEEKLY GROUP MEETINGS: Each student makes at least one awareness presentation focusing on one or more of the six pillars of awareness.

8th GRADE ACTIVITY GUIDELINES

COLLEGE PREP DAYS: Participating students tour colleges of interest dressed in their customized neckwear. 

MIDDLE SCHOOL MIXERS: Each week, participating students invest 5% of their time at a middle school mixer social event, planned by the CIP Middle School Administrator. Students wear their customized neckwear.

MENTORING: Participating students invest 20% to 40% of their program time mentoring 6th graders. The middle school mix workbook is used as a resource. 

WEEKLY GROUP MEETINGS: Each student makes at least one awareness presentation focusing on one or more of the six pillars of awareness.
