CIP Student Career Exploration 

Student Career Exploration, a customizable version of the Community Impact Program (CIP) For Elementary Schools, provides a Career Exploration Kit to participating teachers. ry School book for each student. This book is the foundation of the BowTie It Up elementary school 9-week Career Exploration Program. The purpose of this program is to increase student knowledge of critical zones in career life and how knowledge and use of soft skills gives students a head start.

CIP Program Customization

The school principal must include SCE in the Community Impact Program purchased for that school. Each participating educator (teacher, coach, or administrator) is free to customize implementation of the BowTie It Up Career Exploration Program as desired, consistent with the School Improvement Plan then in effect at that school, and in compliance with choices made by the School Principal, subject to the following customization framework.

 

Use Of The Critical Zone Book

The introduction to the book says that life is filled with critical zones, specific periods of time when the decisions you make and the actions you take are critical to your long-term success. Gaining a better understanding of yourself is a vital part of career exploration, regardless of the career path you eventually choose. In addition to the introduction, the book contains seven discussion topics explored by students over 9 weeks.  The book also contains a workbook, which the teacher may incorporate into the program as desired. 

READING SCHEDULE: Students are given a reading schedule consistent with the program time period approved by the School Principal. Each student then proceeds at his or her own pace. 

DISCUSSION SESSIONS: Educators plan, schedule, and monitor discussion sessions based on classroom practices adopted by each educator.  Each educator assigns each participating student a discussion group each week. Discussion groups range in size from 3 to 7 students. 

PRE-ASSESSMENT AND POST-ASSESSMENT: To begin the program period, each student is provided with a pre-assessment containing 20 multiple-choice questions. After the last discussion session, each student is provided with a post-assessment containing 20 multiple-choice questions. BowTie It Up provides the teacher with an answer sheet for each assessment. Each student is recognized for participating. Assessment results are provided to BowTie It Up.
